Zachary "Zach" Goode is first introduced in book two, while he is in 10th grade.

Zach Goode Profile

Zach in GG2

Zach is a student at the Blackthorne Institute and has knowledge of assault rifles, other guns and various forms of torture as implicated by the information shared by Zach in Out of Sight, Out of Time. In the series, he is Cammie's main romantic interest. His true feelings towards her are unclear until he kisses her in the main hall at the end of the second book. He is the son of Catherine Goode, who is the leader of a splinter group within the Circle of Cavan that is dedicated to finding/retrieving a list of names of all the key members in the Circle.

Physical Appearance[]

Zach is said to have dark brown hair and is tall, slightly taller than Josh in CMH. In CMH, Liz asks if he is ruggedly-handsome hot like George Clooney in his later years, or cute-boyish hot like Leonardo DiCaprio, the early years. Bex then says, "Rugged. Definitely rugged." He is said by Cammie to be "gorgeous" various times throughout the book and the only resemblance of his mother is his eyes. At first, we don't know if Zach resembles his father, as Zach says he never knew him, but always had Joe. In the fourth book, Cammie foreshadows that Agent Edward Townsend resembles Zach in a way, and finds out in book six that Townsend is Zach's father.

Relationships[]

Cammie Morgan (First noted as his girlfriend in the sixth book). In Cross My Heart Hope to Spy, Zach's relationship with Cammie has a rivalry feel to it. He is cocky, flirty, caring, mysterious and teasing when he is with her. He often calls her "Gallagher Girl." He likes to be around her whenever possible. Cammie is conflicted on how she feels towards Zach because she only has experience being around normal boys (Josh). Zach is jealous of Josh and calls him Jimmy whenever he and Cammie mention him. One day Zach asks Cammie out on a date when the school goes into town. He teases her a little before he pulls her away to a quiet area where he almost kisses Cammie until they get interrupted by DeeDee and Josh. Zach is really mad and says a bad word in Farsi. Later he helps Cammie and protects her when they along with the rest of Gallagher Academy and Blackthorne work together to get the Gallagher Alumni list back.

In Don't Judge a Girl By Her Cover, Cammie and Zach don't see each other much since Blackthorne is no longer at the Gallagher Academy. There are a few times when they do see each other; most of these times being when Cammie is following Macey on her father’s the campaign trail. Every time they do see each other, Zach gets protective of Cammie and wants her to be safe.

In Only the Good Spy Young, Cammie and Zach still don’t see each other much. Zach is still just as mysterious, but he helps Cammie however he can at that time. When Cammie eventually finds out that Zach's mother is the woman who tried to abduct her in Boston, she swears to herself that she'll never feel anything for him again. However, she didn’t really mean what she thought. When she and Zach are back at Gallagher Academy, they talk about what should happen next. Zach wants Cammie to run away with him so they can keep each other safe until it is safe. However, Cammie doesn’t want to put Zach’s life in danger so she tells him she can’t run away with him. Zach knows.

When Cammie runs away, Zach spends the entire summer looking for her with Bex. During that time, he never gives up on Cammie and holds on.

When Cammie comes back in Out of Sight, Out of Time, things are awkward between them. Zach becomes distant during those first few days she is back. Including being oddly close with Rebecca "Bex" Baxter, in which Cammie suspects they are a couple. It is later told that they got close looking for her, but nothing romantic was between them. While it is never explained why he was distant, there are a few reasons why he probably was. 1. He was mad and very upset at Cammie for not taking him with her to keep her safe. 2. He is mad at himself because he knows his mother must have been someone that tortured Cammie. 3. He feels like he failed Cammie because she looked and acted so different from the last time he saw her. 4. He needed some time to figure out what he could do to help her now that she came back. During the time Cammie was gone, Zach had no where to go so the adults decided that Zach would be safe with Bex and her parents. During the whole summer, Bex and Zach became better friends by bonding over missing Cammie. The two of them are the ones who love her the most and want to be with her. When Cammie sees Bex and Zach around each other when she returns, she thinks they are in a relationship, but it is not true. Bex and Zach would never be in a romantic relationship because Bex is Cammie’s best friend and Zach loves Cammie. When Zach sees that Cammie killed someone, he is shocked that she can do that. During the night after Zach and Cammie overhear the trustees talk about what Cammie did, they finally talk about Cammie’s decision to runaway. He tells her that she could have died. When Cammie breaks down into tears over her amnesia and the fact that she killed someone, Zach comforts her. He kisses her and they hold onto each other. After that, things are finally back to normal between them, and they are very close for the rest of the book. Zach continues to help Cammie remember what happened to her. When he finds out that Cammie went to Preston for help on July 4th and stayed with him and his family for a while, Zach becomes jealous. When Cammie remembers what really happened to her father, Zach is right there to hold her, let her cry, and smooth her hair. He tells her that he went crazy when she was gone. When Cammie almost commits suicide by jumping off the roof of the Gallagher Academy and is brought back to her mother’s office after being sedated, Zach watches over her the whole time. When she wakes up, he embraces her tightly and let’s her know that he knows she is not crazy. At the end of the book, they are together in the P&E barn with Macey, Liz and Bex and figure out what comes next.

In the final book, United We Spy, Cammie and Zach share many romantic moments together when they are together. They work together to rescue Preston and stop World War 3 from happening. By the end of the book, Cammie is in college while working with Agent Townsend with Zach by her side. In the declassified epilogue set 10 years later, Zach proposes to Cammie in front of Bex, Liz, Macey, Abby, Edward, Joe and Rachel at the Gallagher Academy and she accepts him without hesitation.

While Ally never wrote a short story for Cammie and Zach's wedding, fans can imagine that it was amazing. Cammie and Zach forever!

Family[]

Catherine Goode (Mother) Zach’s relationship with his mother is a big mystery before Cammie first meets her. However, it is clear that he despises Catherine. In United We Spy, Zach made it clear to Cammie that he would kill Catherine in the future after everything she did to Cammie and him. She has dark green eyes like Zach. Zach knows that Catherine is insane. He probably has known that since he was a little boy. However, he didn’t have anyone. He was stuck with her.

Edward Townsend (Father) In United We Spy, Catherine tells Zach that his father is Agent Townsend. Townsend never knew that Zach was his son because Catherine never told him. Zach was deeply hurt that his father left him with his psychopathic mother. In the declassified epilogue for the 10th anniversary edition of United We Spy, Townsend is shown standing next to Zach as Zach proposes to Cammie. How much their relationship improved in 10 years remains a mystery.

Abigail "Abby" Cameron (stepmother) In the prologue of United We Spy, the last book in the Gallagher Girls Series, Abby is Zach’s stepmom. Abby married Edward Townsend. In the declassified epilogue of United We Spy, Zach helps her catch his little sister when she is running around naked.
